Back in Colorado

We missed Colorado and moved back in the fall of 2011!  And much has happened since.

I do apologize for the severe delay of an update.  We have been very busy with our new property that we bought with a fixer upper house.

I decided to reduce the number of rabbits I keep to help with the move, and when I got them all settled in I liked the smaller number.  It allows me to enjoy the rabbit more, than just always doing chores.

I decided to focus mostly on the agouti group of hollands, as well as some steels and frosties.  I have very few tort hollands left.  I added Champagne to my netherland dwarfs, which I am very excited about.

With the decrease in the number of my animals I was able to cull hard for what I wanted and continue to do so.  I am VERY happy with the increase in quality that this has given me.

In 2012 my cream jr holland lop doe won 14th of 195.  I bought a black netherland dwarf buck who won 7th, and BRIS as a jr at his next show.

Building a new bunny barn!

I have been a very bad blogger, but I am back:)

We are currently in the process of building a new rabbit barn!  This has been a long time coming for me and I am so thrilled that the time has finally come.

The barn is being built on a slab that was already on our property that was years ago used as a pig pen for the feedlot that was located here.  The slab has a built in drainage system, so it will be great for the bunny barn.  There is a roof that was still there, however you can only stand up straight half way down, then it gets to short.  So we have cut off the old frame, and are building a new frame.  It will have a brand new roof, and we will use the metal sheets that were on the old roof for the side walls.

The total size of the rabbit barn will be 20 feet by 30 feet, and will house a total of 154 rabbit cages.  They will all be on an automatic watering system, and waste system.

We just ordered all new rabbit wire, as all of the cages will be brand new as well.  Some improvements that I will be making to the rabbits cages are in floor wire nesting boxes, and hopping shelves.  I hope that the in floor nesting boxes will keep the kits cooler in the summer, and reduce the number of kits that I lose due to being pulled out of the nesting box by mom, or being born on the wire, as they can crawl around and fall into the nest.  This is also a more natural way for the doe to nest, in the ground:)  With the hopping shelves,  I want to allow the bunnies to jump up onto something if they wish, it sounds boring to be in a flat cage all the time.  This would also allow moms to get away from their babies for a while, and also build muscle in the show bunnies!

Here are some pictures of the new rabbit barn at its current stage.  I will get more posted as we continue to build after this terrible cold spell is over.  We hope to have the barn completed by the end of February!

The Start to the Blogging

OK, Bloink's Blessed Bunnies is now BLOGGING!

My name is Sarah Bloink, and I am the primary owner of the Rabbitry.  Hannah, my sister is taking a break from the rabbits while she attends Notre Dame, and travels the world.  We got started in 1999, and have been breeding holland lops, and netherland dwarfs, with the occational other breeds.  A few years ago we added velveteen lops to our barn as well.  We have been in Colorado until last February, when we moved to a little community in West Central Texas, McCaulley.  We have been competitive in the holland lops, and netherland dwarfs, and hope the velveteen lops pass at convention this year.

Last weekend our broken black netherland dwarf buck, Roger's Rio, took Best in Show in both show A and B, at the Llanno Estacado Rabbit Breeders Association show in Muleshoe, TX!!! GO RIO!!

We have been very blessed lately with lots of babies in the nesting boxes!!  We have colored babies and BEWs!

I am working on building a new website, since when I updated my computer, it distorted my old site.  I am hoping that the new, and improved site will be up by next weekend!

We are planning on attending the Duncan, OK show.

And it Begins!
